Main global Go event is going to take place in Russia in 2021. Vladivostok has been chosen as the host city for the WAGC. During the competition it will turn into the capital of world Go. The competition is hosted by the Russian Go Federation under the egis of the International Go Federation (IGF).

For the first time in its history the World Amateur Go Championship will be held outside of Asia. Heretofore it took place in China, Korea, Japan and Thailand. The championship involves 77 International Go Federation countries and territories, with a national champion representing his country. The championship provides 8 winning places, the winner receives the title of the 41st World Amateur Go Champion. The prize fund is not provided. According to the regulations of the World Go Cup, the participation of professionals is prohibited.
